Intermediate Drawing is a student-driven, project-based course that builds on the foundational skills developed in Beginning Drawing. Through guided planning with their instructor, students continue to complete original projects that demonstrate increasing sophistication and proficiency in designated course competencies. Students expand their working vocabulary of visual art terms and apply the elements and principles of art with greater nuance and control.

The course maintains a strong emphasis on grayscale drawing while allowing continued exploration of color. Students further develop their understanding of perspective through more complex spatial compositions. In addition, students are introduced to digital drawing and painting.

As in the beginning level, students will complete a final portfolio demonstrating their growth and range of skills. Due to the increased complexity and variety of media, the purchase of additional art materials may be required. Regular communication with the instructor through meetings or email is expected, as the course is highly customized to each student’s experience and artistic goals. This course prepares students for continued study in Advanced Drawing and other fine arts disciplines.
