Every school approaches the Honors designation differently, so it's important to understand the CMASAS process before pursing these credits. At CMASAS Honors is not just about taking a test, working faster, or doing “harder” assignments. It’s about students taking ownership of their learning by finding a topic or concept that interests them and building their own learning experience around that topic. It’s about learning something deeply and showing that knowledge in a way that suits the student and the topic. We believe the best way for students to do that is through a final Honors project that they conceive, develop, and produce with instructor guidance. Students complete three assignments for Honors credit:
Proposal: Students pick a topic or concept related to the course and a project type. They also develop a problem statement and/or guiding questions that guide the completion of the project.
Preparation: Students develop a plan for completing the project. They list the steps they need to complete their chosen project type. They also turn in a bibliography of sources used to guide and inspire work.
Project: This is the finished project that resolves the problem statement or guiding questions. Part of this project is a final meeting with the instructor to present and/or reflect on the project.
Only PEG curriculum is available for Honors designation unless a partner curriculum is the only option available for the course. Additionally, only core subjects (math, science, social studies, and language arts) and world languages can receive the Honors designation.
